Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - Rick Perry will face questions from South Carolina voters at a Myrtle Beach town hall Monday morning before taking the stage at Republican Sen. Jim DeMint's highly anticipated Labor Day forum.
Tea party favorite Congressman Tim Scott is hosting the town hall with the Texas governor at 10 a.m. ET in his conservative coastal district, according to Scott's Chief of Staff Nick Muzin. Perry is the third presidential candidate to participate. Earlier this month, Scott featured Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and former U.S. Ambassador to China and Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at separate events in Charleston.
Scott and DeMint are among conservative leaders in the critical Southern primary state who said they will "keep their powder dry" and remain neutral through the early part of the primary process.
An endorsement from either leader will be a coup for any White House hopeful.
DeMint pulled in five GOP presidential contenders to participate in his Palmetto Freedom Forum, to be held in downtown Columbia, including Perry, Bachmann, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and businessman Herman Cain.
Romney initially declined the Monday invitation to the DeMint event, citing a scheduling conflict. But late Tuesday the campaign reversed course and changed his schedule so that he could attend the event, choosing to appear at a tea party rally in New Hampshire Sunday evening
